The Artist Explains: James Gillespie - 'Someday Sundays'

London based artist James Gillespie speaks to us about letting his viewer walk in his shoes for his fun music video, ‘Someday Sundays’ which is shot in Brighton, from the perspective of his glasses.

Where was the video for ’Someday Sundays' filmed?
Brighton! Although i live in London - i just woke up and felt like shooting some content elsewhere. Didn’t know where i was going until i got to the train station. Just figured a trip was needed.

How does the video connect with the song?
The song is all about getting away from your usual life. I wanted to show people that sometimes you just need to get away. Anywhere. Thats also why i shot it all using my glasses. I wanted to give people a proper in-eye view of it all. Not a phone or SLR. It also meant that no one knew i was filming. Which changed the way people interacted with me. Plus Brighton was fun to go out in and not far on the train. hahahah

Do you have any behind the scenes stories you could share with us?
Erm... there was a lot of content that i didn’t put in the film...but not that i can share here. Hahaha. What you don’t see on camera is that i actually woke up in London and then went out after. Also at one point some random person took my glasses and filmed a bunch of stuff without me even noticing. Might release that one day. Bonus content. Hahahaha

Can you tell us about the ideas/themes/imagery used?
Well not really….... as it was all just one journey i didnt really think about it that much. Thats kind of why i love it so much. It's honest. I guess i knew that i wanted it to be about having fun and forgetting about your phone and screens. Just doing things i wouldn't normally do. Karaoke - Arcades that type of stuff. The beauty is that i didnt have to think about angles or anything. Just me and my vision. Which tbh about - i kind of forgot after a while. Just filmed what was happening. The Karaoke bar was a random find. Same as the music store!

Is there a message the video is trying to convey?
Just escaping. Waking up and thinking - fuck this. I need something different today. And it's as easy as getting on a train. It didn't cost much at all and that stuff can really change your outlook on things. I get down a lot and underestimate how important getting away is. I traveled for so much of my life that it is a big part of my life. I've lived all over the world and when i came to London it became harder to get away. Work - life - etc. The message is simply get out and go look around.
