Live Review: Nasty Cherry – The Garage – 03/03/2020
Nasty Cherry have come a huge distance in the short time they have been a band, from starring in Netflix series ‘I’m With the Band’ they have very quickly found their sound and equally a huge fan base! The band set out on a small UK tour last week and tonight was their final performance in London’s iconic The Garage venue…
With such internet infamy, it wasn’t a surprise to not only see that tonight show had sold out but equally at how many eager fans had turned up hours early to get a prime spot, the Nasty Cherry’s girls had brought along NOISY as their opener for the tour; a chaotic mix of electronic beats, catchy hooks and mosh-pits. Having been around roughly about the same time as their headlining counterparts, NOISY instantly took control of the venue like they had been doing it for 10 years; kicking off with their top hit ‘So What?’ warmed up the room with the crowd jumping and cutting shapes left and right. This high tempo energy continued for the entire set, ‘Do It Like That’ & ‘Bring the Drums Back’ got the crowd pumped up and wanting more, we could have watched another hour of NOISY’s action packed performance!
Before long it was time for the illustrious Nasty Cherry to take the stage, as the lights went out the screams from the crowd were deafening; kicking things off with ‘Roses’ and ‘Mermaid Bitch’ the venue soon became a mix of sweat and the front row singing their heads off, what a start! As the opening notes of ‘Live Forever’ trickled out of the darkness, a somehow louder scream than earlier pierced the silence, frontwoman Gabriette strutting back and forth between her bandmates, her silky voice floated around the venue like a home cooked meal after a long day! The sultry grooves of ‘Fuck Modern Love’ was a welcome break to catch our breath; before long Gabriette was back to her old tricks and instructing the crowd to get “Sweaty and Sexy” to which they graciously agreed and continued to dance like they were in their bedroom and no one was watching!
The new tracks that peppered the set list seemed to move away from the Nasty Cherry’s usual smooth and sensual sound and brought a bit more of a punky, I don’t care vibe; ‘Should Have Known Better’ got the front row throwing their hair back and forth while lead guitarist Chloe tore around the stage locking eyes with anyone she could see! As the night came to an end and the band ended on debut single ‘Win’ it was obvious that Nasty Cherry are far from an industry built pop band but instead an ever-evolving musical powerhouse, still being so early in their career they have a lot of room for experimenting with their sound and finding the note that says “We are Nasty Cherry’, the new tracks tonight gave us a fresh look at this and it seems like only good things are destined for this band in the near future.
