Introducing #141 - TALU
Let us introduce you to indie-pop trio TALU, who has just released their sparkling track ‘Take You Home’ - an infectious piece of indietronica that captures a huge feel good vibe! Drawing in influences from the likes of Bombay Bicycle Club and The Wombats, the band took a moment to talk to us in more depth about their music.
So, firstly who are you?
I'm Will Martins. I'm the lead singer and keys player in the band Talu. The band is made up of me, Nat Hill and David Richmond.
Where are you from and what is it famous for? // We're all from the Crawley / Horsham area. The two things that come to mind when I think about what Crawley is known for are Gatwick Airport and that Robert Smith (From the Cure) grew up here...
How did you all meet?
Me and Nat went to the same school and have played in various bands with each other since then. David was always part of the local music scene and we met at a music youth club thing when we were like 15. All three of us started jamming and writing songs together a couple of years ago and eventually moved in together to write a load of songs and start Talu.
Who would you say are your key musical influences when it comes to your sound?
Bombay Bicycle Club, TDCC, Phoenix and the 1975 for sure. Bands that find a really good balance between being a band band and having loads of cool synths and electronics in the mix.
Your new track ‘Take You Home’ is out now, can you tell us what the track is about? Where was it recorded? Any behind the scenes stories from the making of it?
Take You Home was written and recorded last year as part of a set of songs we wanted to track ourselves and then take to the team at Studio 91 in Newbury to develop and produce them. We recorded the drums in a warehouse and everything else in our living room and kitchen.
The song is about about two people telling each other how much potential they both have. There's a mix of sentiments and the song goes back and fourth between the potential they have in their relationship and everything else they could do outside of that.
