Inspired #143 - Jazz Mino
Jazz Mino has just released her latest single ‘Like A Drunk Girl’ - an extremely relatable track with a witty - tongue in cheek modern pop vibe. She took a moment to talk to us about the inspirations behind the track and her music.
Who are your top three musical inspirations?
Right now my favourite artists/bands have to be Lauv, A R I Z O N A and Charlie Puth.
I completely fell in love with Lauv’s music after hearing his track ‘Chasing Fire’ on my Spotify radio… Then I had a mass binge of all of his songs and I’ve not stopped for 3 years haha! It's a dream of mine to collab with him!
A R I Z O N A have such a fun, chill, summery sound. I always listen to them whilst I’m running and both albums are just so uplifting. Makes me run faster haha!
Charlie Puth is just an absolute genius, and I learn so much from his songwriting, and the harmony he uses in his songs. I think Attention is one of my all time favourites, and I really love one of his newer songs, ‘Mother’.
Is there a certain film that inspires you?
I was pretty inspired by Bohemian Rhapsody. I’ve always adored Freddie Mercury’s voice and I grew up listening to Queen - But surprisingly I didn’t know that much about his or the bands life. It was really eye opening to see how the band struggled initially, and also the dynamic between Freddie and his parents.
What city do you find the most inspiring?
To be honest I feel inspired wherever I go. There’s always something to take away from every place you visit and in my case, there’s always a story/song that comes out of it.
Who is the most inspiring person to you?
Ha. One person is too hard! I’m very inspired by all of my wonderful friends, they’re all so positive and so passionate about what they love, and being around that kind of energy all the time is very empowering!
What were your inspirations when writing the track?
Honestly; shitty negative people. I had a stage of my life where it seemed that everyone was telling me exactly how to act or highlighting all of my imperfections and why I wasn’t ‘enough’. I suddenly just hit a threshold and thought, I just need to chill out and stop caring so much and enjoy my life. Then I wrote ‘Like A Drunk Girl’ :)
How would you like to inspire people?
I think I’d just like to inspire people listening to my songs who are perhaps going through similar difficult times. I hope they hear them, feel empowered that they deserve better in life, and to throw out the rubbish clogging it up!
