Let us introduce you to LA-based artist Sofia Wolfson, who has just shared her dreamy new single ‘Billboard’. Sofia took a moment to tells us more about her music and her home city of Los Angeles.

Hey Sofia, how are you?
I’m alright! Taking this year day-by-day. I’m learning a lot.

The new track ‘Billboard’ is out now - can you tell us what the track is about?
‘Billboard’ is about dissociating and feeling completely outside of yourself. I wrote it during a time I didn’t feel grounded in any setting. Even my dreams were really bizarre and I often had trouble figuring out if I was awake or dreaming. I was in a relationship at the time that was very difficult because I was making it difficult. I had always been one of those 13-going-on-30 kids, so I always expect a lot from myself. But this song was written in a time where I was doing a lot of learning and growing up, stages I felt I had skipped.

You are based in Los Angeles, what is your favorite thing to do there?
When we aren’t experiencing a pandemic, my favorite thing to do is to go to a show at the Bootleg Theater. And to hang out at Old Style Guitar Shop.

Where do you find inspiration from when writing your music?
I find inspiration in the weirdest places. The other day I was thinking about how when I lived in Massachusetts, I used to hang out at this one CVS a lot. So I wrote a song about that. Usually lyrics will come to me when I least expect them to, like in the grocery store or while I’m driving. I’m also an English major in school, so I get inspired by books I’m reading.

How would you describe your music to someone?
Very sad alternative folky tunes.

Apparently you are a self-proclaimed ‘emo’/sad girl? What are you go-to emo anthems?
Weezer’s “Across the Sea.” That whole Pinkerton album is great.

Now the track is out there, what next?
While we’re still stuck inside, I’m going to keep writing as much as possible and once there are shows again, I’m stoked to come back to the UK!
