Nia Wyn treats us to a double dose of neo-soul goodness with her new singles ‘Atlantis’ and ‘Ghosted’. Fresh from releasing her debut EP earlier this year, she shows off two sides of her personality with this new music, and hopefully gives us a taste of the next EP. Nia Wyn took a moment to talk to us about the tracks in more depth.

So, you are releasing not one but two brand new tracks - ‘Atlantis’ and ‘Ghosted’, what made you decide to do a double release?
Thanks! I have a lot of music I want to get out there, I wanted to do this double release as the tracks are quite contrasting yet they are both about connecting with or disconnecting from someone you care about. Sometimes releasing one song at a time doesn't feel enough and can feel like an industry-tradition slog.

Can you tell us what the tracks are about? Where were they recorded? Any behind the scenes stories from the recording process?
Atlantis is wanting to escape from the daily grind with a lover to the idyllic and legendary lost city underwater. Ghosted is, as you can probably guess, losing touch with someone in a one-sided relationship, where only you make the effort with the other person and get nothing back. The tracks were recorded in Pat's studio in West London, and at mine during lockdown. We did a lot of Zoom sessions working on the tracks. If you listen closely in Ghosted, there's a moment where my cat Homer was scratching at his collar and bell.

‘Atlantis’ has a mild link to the game Assassin’s Creed, are you much of a gamer? Which games are your favorite to play?
Yeah I'd definitely call myself a gamer. I find it really helpful for my mental health as it helps me to focus on something outside of my own mind. Particularly love RPGs, Fallout, Skyrim, Assassin's Creed games. Also love Red Dead, Far Cry series, FIFA and PES.

This May, you were meant to be heading out on tour with Paul Weller for a few dates. Obviously due to Covid-19 this has been moved. When can we potentially expect to see you playing live again?
Thankfully the tour has been moved to March 2021 so very excited to get on the road with the band! I'm trying to be optimistic about live music returning soon, who knows. I can't wait.

With no live music, how have you been keeping motivated?
Speaking to other artists, writing songs, and a couple bike rides each week.

It’s not been too long since we heard your debut EP, which got an amazing response. Are we starting to see the makings of the next EP? Maybe a debut album?
I am definitely thinking about the next EP. That body of work is starting to form, so I'm focusing on recording those tracks and working with other musicians and artists to put together a strong project.
