The Artist Explains: Liza Anne - 'Bad Vacation'

Liza Anne speaks to us about embracing her extroverted, playful side for her vibrant and liberating visuals, ‘Bad Vacation’.

Where was the video for ‘Bad Vacation’ filmed?
The video was filmed in a public park area near Nashville as well as in the front yard of the director’s house. Shooting outside felt the easiest to uphold the social distancing standards of the time.

How does the video connect with the song?
I think the video really highlights the liberation of solitude and the freedom you can feel when you really dig into time with yourself - especially after an exhausting, bummer experience. Strange enough, the time we’re inside of now on a global scale holds a lot of solitude and aloneness - and it’s easy to feel swallowed in it in a sort of heavy sense - so this video, I feel, can highlight the fun of spending time alone.

Do you have any unforeseen behind the scenes/making-of stories you can share?

To be fair, I was getting so used to being a home body so to jump right into such an extroverted, wildly joyous state for this video was a test of my limits. I had been in a really terrible head space that week - so much so, that I came home from the video shoot and my partner and house mate, Josh, had surprised me with a cat. That doesn’t give you any behind the scenes of the video but a really special look into my personal life that meant a lot to me.

What do you hope people take away from watching the video?
I really wanted to involve choreography in this video, long before the pandemic was a reality. I wanted a large group of friends all in different colors doing the same dance moves. Once everything changed, the video seemed to make even more sense with the messaging - the whole idea that returning to yourself after a long stay in some bad shit can feel celebratory. I love how the video translates that.
