Australian singer-songwriter duo The Beamish Brothers return with the nuanced 'Nature;' an introspective and expertly executed socially conscious track, rife with lush harmony and metaphor. We caught up with them to talk about the single, Australia and their plans for the future.

Your track ‘Nature’ is out now, can you speak to the metaphors found within the track?
The whole song is a metaphor for the relationship between humanity and Earth from the perspective of our beaten and polluted world. In that way, the word “nature” is both literal and metaphorical! We wrote the lyrics in the bridge “you’re draining me whole, the waters are rising, I’m burning slow, I’m begging for air but breathing in smoke” later in the writing process to make the environmental connection a little clearer. The song is also totally applicable to any abusive relationship and the feeling of reclaiming your power.

What do you hope your listeners take from it?
We really hope our listeners take a sense of confidence and even a little sass from this song. We think the world needs music now more than ever and hopefully, this song will serve as a reminder to fans and new listeners that everyone deserves to feel empowered.

How would you describe it sonically in comparison to previous projects?
Well, this is definitely the most confident track we’ve released so far, and perhaps less inward-focused and reflective than our last EP. Beyond that, we try not to analyse the “sound” of our music too much. As long as we love the track and connect with the message, that’s the main thing.

With music discovery predominantly lacking territory thanks to the internet, do you feel that being from Australia influences your music?
We sometimes draw musical inspiration from live shows by local artists here in Australia. The sense of community we show each other is truly special. However, we really try to listen to music from all corners of the globe, from all kinds of artists. That’s super important for us to open up our minds to more ideas!

Is this release hinting at a new project on the horizon? If not, what can we look forward to from you next?
We’re not exactly sure whether Nature will pop up again in another body of work, however, we can confidently say that it marks the beginning of more purpose-driven intentional pop music which we’ve since been writing a lot of. Our next single is currently in the works and follows in the same direction as this one, delving into new social issues and picking up where Nature left off. We can’t wait!
