A Day In The Life Of #17 - Calum Foad

With the release of his latest single, ‘Hope’ still ringing in our ears, synth pop singer songwriter Calum Foad talks us through a typical day in his life.

My Alarm goes off...
Trick question. I don’t bother setting one anymore, I just let my girlfriend’s wake me up, when she repeatedly sleeps through hers. (If you read this interview, Georgia, please change the alarm tone).

At 7am. The first thing I do...
Mainline coffee. All of it. I’m not a morning person, so if I’m up at 7am, it’s either because I’m either busy, haven’t slept or something’s gone wrong – all require coffee.

My typical day involves…
I spend a lot of time talking to people in my little ‘team’ – it’s not unusual for me to be hassling my manager at 11pm - I spend too many hours on the phone! At the minute, during this bizarre period of lockdown, I’m trying to polish up on my production skills a touch, for making demos from the comfort of my home.

The best part of my day…
Getting to listen to new mixes.  There’s no better feeling than hearing how a labour of love is shaping up!

The worst part of my day is when…
I hate any and all forms of housework with a passion… Any time I have to do any sort of ‘adulting’ is a no from me!

At the end of my day I will…
Write music! My brain tends to go into overdrive when I go to bed – so that’s when I come up with a lot of the concepts for my songs.

If I wasn't a musician I'd be a…
I’d love to be a mental health counsellor. I’ve been very fortunate that through my music, I’ve been given the opportunity to go into schools and deliver talks on mental health, which is something I found immensely rewarding – so if I had the time, I’d definitely be doing that in a more professional capacity.
