Inspired #156 - Filous
Austrian producer extraordinaire Filous recently connected with indie icons The Kooks for their resplendent collaboration entitled, "Hey Love." We caught up with him to chat about the track and what inspires him.
Who are your top three musical inspirations?
Right now I am very inspired by the works of music producers like George Martin, Quincy Jones and Greg Kurstin.
Is there a certain film that inspires you?
It's very hard for me to chose just one film. I've been a long time fan of pretty much every movie/documentary that Werner Herzog has ever done. His obsessive dedication to the craft of directing is something that inspires and motivates me immensely to give my best at making music.
What city do you find the most inspiring?
As I have been working on a big project in my studio for the last year or so, I got to spend a lot more time than usual back in my hometown Vienna again. Because I was away from Vienna so much over the last years, I am much more aware of the architecture and culture of the city now than I ever was before. This newfound connection to my roots has had a big influence on my music-making lately.
Who is the most inspiring person to you?
There are so many inspiring people in my life that it's impossible for me to answer this question.
I am very grateful for all the people that I have the privilege to call friends and family.
What were your inspirations when writing "Hey Love"?
When Luke Pritchard, Florence Arman and I wrote the song we didn't have any concrete references or inspirations in mind. I think the song really ended up being a natural combination of all of our tastes. Later on while I was working on the production of “Hey Love” I was very much inspired by the discography of The Kooks themselves and really just tried to focus on being true to their sound, while trying to pair it with new influences!
How would you like to inspire people?
I find it very flattering if people are inspired by my music, however, that's not something I aim to do consciously!
