Inspired #190 - Saving Face
Rock trio Saving Face kicked off the year with the release of their new single, ‘Eyes.On.Me’. They took a moment to speak to us about some of their inspirations; including, Stoke on Trent, The Shawshank Redemption and the importance of inspiring self-worth and self-assurance in others.
Who are your top three musical inspirations?
Top 3 musical inspirations would have to be Royal Blood, Dead! And Biffy Clyro. Its all about those bands that just capture this absolute wall of sound for us. Huge riffs, anthemic chorus’s thats where we really want to be.
Is there a certain film that inspires you?
I’ve never really been asked this question but If there would be a film that inspires me it would be The Shawshank Redemption. I find the movie so beautiful yet so dark in some places, I feel thats what we try to capture in our music, it’s the juxtaposition. Our debut single, ‘Complicated Introvert’ was very slow and heartfelt where as ‘Eyes. On. Me’ is the polar opposite to say the least.
What city do you find the most inspiring?
The city I find the most inspiring is actually my hometown of Stoke on Trent. There are so many talented individuals in Stoke on Trent and they constantly inspire us to be the best version of our band we can. New faces emerge on the music scene every so often and they are always so fantastic so its almost like a little boost for us to keep pushing.
Who is the most inspiring person to you?
It would probably be my fiancé in all honestly, as corny as that is. She’s been through so much but she still smiles everyday and persuades me to keep pushing our music out even when I’ve given up so yeah would definitely be the wife to be.
What were your inspirations when writing the track?
Oh this is easy, I was very annoyed that day in particular and it got me thinking, if I want it I’m getting it kind of feel? Then the lyrics honestly just rolled off my tongue. I think we actually wrote the complete song in two days! Thats all the parts, structure, lyrics and all the fiddly bits in-between.
How would you like to inspire people?
I would love nothing more than to inspire self-worth and self-assurance in people. I would love to inspire bravery, bravery for people to aspire to be something more and to never stop until they achieve their goals. A lot of people tend to give up when they reach their first setback and if I could change that, it would mean the world to me.
