Vicky Sometani graced our ears with her debut EP ‘Come To You’ at the end of last year - she took a moment to talk to us in more depth about the inspirations behind the release and her music.

Who are your top three musical inspirations?
At the moment it is probably Anderson Paak, Nick Hakim, and Jordan Rakei. I get inspired following their stories, seeing how they collaborate with other artists, and the way they blend and mix genres to create something so unique and beautiful. I should mention Julia Jacklin as well. Her music and voice makes my heart melt.

Is there a certain film that inspires you?
Arrival is one of my favourite sci-fi films in recent years. Aside from the imagery, concept, and performances, I love the way it portrays language and its effect on your brain and the way you see the world and understand/experience other cultures. No spoilers here, but I do believe learning/studying a new language will change your brain for the better.

What city do you find the most inspiring?
Venice was probably the most heart fluttering, enchanting places I've ever been. The off beaten paths, the romantic evening lights reflecting on the water, the cross of architectural styles from various periods and influences across the history of the Mediterranean, I get excited just thinking about it.

Who is the most inspiring person to you?
Is it cheesy to say my partner? I don't know anyone more steady, patient, or kind; which are all qualities I strive to attain.

What were your inspirations when writing your new EP?
I went through a period of inner turmoil searching for growth, change, and meaning. These songs came from that and from overcoming my fears and finding myself in a better place. The title song of the EP is 'Come To You' which is all about listening and returning to oneself and celebrating within that simple truth.

How would you like to inspire people?
I would like to inspire people with my music and with my actions and words. If even in a small way, to accept myself and encourage others to do the same.
