Anna B Savage’s furiously brilliant first-ever-sell-out show at the Lexington was a heady mix of skilled musicianship and arresting vocals.

The singer and her band were a force of nature together on stage, taking us on a wild ride of runaway rhythmic riffs, dance-inducing synths and brooding drum beats. Standout tracks included ‘Since We Broke Up’, an unrelenting and earnest anti-love song, and ‘Two’, a brooding, frantic post-punk confession. There was a palpable ferocity and depth to her performance. She sang her relatable and honest admissions with purpose and every fibre of her being. If there’s one thing Anna is hellbent on achieving, it’s to move you either physically or emotionally.

Her lightning bolt of a voice electrified the room, changing the audience’s mood and motive from one strike to the next with her lyrics. In one moment she’s making us laugh as she waxes lyrical about trying to get off to Tim Curry. In the next, she’s encouraging us to feel gut-clenching empathy as she laments about the pain of a toxic ex-boyfriend. Her solo finale songs were the perfect conclusion to the night - considered, full of sincerity, and showcasing her mesmerising guitar skill.

At one point during the night she asked the crowd if anyone knew her personally - we certainly feel like we do now and we can’t wait to see her again.
