Introducing #197 - Rosa

Let us introduce you to emerging artist Rosa - who has just released her debut single ‘Unravel Me’ - which is about the all-consuming fear of someone discovering your deepest insecurities and flaws. Ticking influences from the likes of Gracie Abrams and Lana Del Rey - the track was produced by Ben Matravers (Easy Life, Hannah Trigwell), Unravel Me gives an insight into the singer-songwriters style of combining emotive vocals with ambient and intoxicating production.

Rosa took a moment to talk to us about her music.

Hey there, how are you? So your debut track ‘Unravel Me’ is out now - can you tell us what it is about?
I’m good thanks! It feels like an exciting new chapter in my life right now.
I wrote this song about falling in love with someone but then feeling really afraid of them uncovering all the messy insecure parts of you that lie underneath the surface. You think the easiest thing to do is to say goodbye and leave because it’s the best way to protect yourself from getting hurt. It’s sad cos it means you struggle to recognise when a relationship is actually really good and healthy for you.

Where are you from and what are your favorite things to do there?
I just moved last week so I am exploring all the new places! I’m living in South London but grew up near Portsmouth. All my friends live in London now so it's great to feel like I’ve got a big community here. I love doing lots of arty things in the city with them, going to galleries, painting/drawing, etc...

What are the key influences when it comes to your music?
I’ve always been drawn to very sad music, there’s like a weird enjoyment in basking in your sadness sometimes. It's so healing. I'm influenced by artists like Gracie Abrams, Lennon Stella, Lana Del Rey and Sasha Alex Sloan.
My lyrics tend to be what I would never say out loud to someone, I’m not always great at sharing what’s really going on with me but my songs are brutally honest thoughts that I write in my room /at home where I feel safe and ok to express it all.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never listened to your music before?
I'd describe my sound as sad bedroom pop. It’s intimate and emotional. There’s also an ethereal escapism feel where I hope people can feel they go into another world.

Now the track is out there, what next for you?
I’ve been writing a lot of songs for a long time now, so I can’t wait to share them and release my first EP!
