Inspired #343 - Little Fuss
Boston-based duo Little Fuss have just released their new single ‘Dear Aria’ - the latest follow up from their debut EP ‘Hazy’ that came out earlier this year. Pulling on dreamy electronic atmosphere with warm beautiful vocals - the pair took a moment to talk to us about the inspirations behind their music.
Who are your top three musical inspirations and why?
We’re hugely inspired by Kate Bush’s experimental and whimsical perspective on pop songwriting. Instrumentally, a band that we’re constantly referencing is The Neighbourhood. We love how they combine subtly retro sounds with complex guitar arrangements, and that’s something we hope to always integrate into our music. Of course, we also draw inspiration from the classics like The Beatles and David Bowie!
Is there a certain film that inspires you and why?
We’re on a huge Wes Anderson kick at the moment. He creates movies that embody a certain aesthetic, which is something you have to do as a band both musically and visually.
What city do you find the most inspiring and why?
In January of 2020 (in the pre-covid era) we took a train to Budapest and it was one of the strangest and most vibrant cities that we’ve ever visited. Shortly after that trip, we began writing songs from our debut EP, so I guess you could say Budapest inspired “Hazy” :)
Who is the most inspiring person to you and why?
For this track, we worked with our friend Joel Blaeser on the mixing side of things. He approaches music with a sense of professionalism that really makes us step up our game, and his sound is present all over the sonic layout of “Dear Aria”.
What were your inspirations when writing your new track?
When we started writing this track, we had just moved to Boston the previous month. The mixture of being in a completely new environment and feeling fresh and motivated by our surroundings made us eager to try new sounds and writing styles that we otherwise may not have attempted. Most of the songs that came from this era are all over the place genre-wise, but “Dear Aria” always felt like the logical follow-up single to our debut EP.
How would you like to inspire people?
It’d be pretty cool if someone out there were inspired to dance around their room while listening to one of our songs!!
