Introducing #194 - Ellie Bleach
Let us introduce you to London based singer-songwriter Ellie Bleach - who has just released her nonchalant power-ballad ‘Doing Really Well Thanks’ via Sad Club Records. She took a moment to talk to us about her music.
Hey there Ellie - how are you? So your track ‘Doing Really Well Thanks’ is out now, can you tell us what it is about?
I’m Doing Really Well Thanks. The track is about desperation, failure, bravado and narcissism. It’s about face tuning your Linkedin profile picture. It’s about googling ‘how to sell your feet pics without it ruining my music career.’ It’s about wanting to be the most mysterious, intriguingly beautiful girl at the job centre.
Where was it recorded? Any behind the scenes stories from the creative process you are happy to share with us?
I record half at home and half in a studio with my delightful engineer Dave Mountain. I recorded the haunted choir part at the beginning after watching the muppets movie, it's 10 layered tracks of me doing impressions of different muppets. If anyone ever finds the unmixed original tracks it’s all over for me.
Where are you based? What are your favorite things to do there?
I’m based in north London. my favourite things to do there are pretending I'm in a Richard Curtis rom-com, drinking 6 pound pints and flouncing around Finsbury park being a tortured artist.
What are your key influences when it comes to your music?
I’m influenced by unhinged singer songwriters, easy listening 70s radio pop and country crooners. Also my peers in London music scene (platonica erotica, famous) are always pushing me to be even more insufferable.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never listened to your music before?
If Billy Joel was a PMSing 19 year old with a god complex.
