Inspired #205 - SKIA
Scandinavian star SKIA talks us through the inspirations of her latest single ‘Hey Boy’ - a dazzling anthem via Heist or Hit.
Who are your top three musical inspirations?
I’m inspired by so many artists and from every corner and genre! I’ve grown up with artists like Johnny Cash, Katie Melua, Beyoncé and Britney. I find inspiration from old Norwegian folk songs and children songs, as well as the biggest artists within pop, jazz, soul and country. Lyrics are important though, it’s always great when artists are able to put words to a feeling, makes me feel seen, heard and understood, haha.
Is there a certain film that inspires you?
Winnie the Pooh brings out all the emotions in me. I laugh and cry and it makes me think a lot. It’s much smarter than you’d think!
What city do you find the most inspiring?
Hmmmm, Paris, Pisa and Edinburgh are inspiring cities. But most of all I’m inspired in nature and in the mountains. Hiking and skiing in Norway and the Austrian and Italian alps really triggers inspiration to me.
Who is the most inspiring person to you?
My grandmother! She’s kind, smart and very good at seeing people and listening. I always have the best conversations with her and I aspire to be more like her.
What were your inspirations when writing your new single?
Hey Boy is a product of doubt, insecurities and impatience, haha.
How would you like to inspire people?
I wanna make people dance and feel good about themselves! I hope that by talking about my own feelings I can make someone else feel less alone or understood. That’s what I appreciate in my favourite artists.
