A Day In The Life Of #23 - Bendik Finborud
Following the recent release of Bendik Finborud’s intimate folk-pop track ‘Tears & Laughter,’ we get to know more about the artist’s daily routine!
My Alarm goes off…
And I’m in a catatonic state for about half an hour. I have this radio alarm clock, which I’ve promised myself never to turn off until I’m out of bed. I feel like I’ve spent my half my life trying to find the right channel to wake up to. It either has to be so interesting I can’t ignore it or so annoying I can’t stand laying in bed any longer. Anything in between and I fall right back to sleep.
The first thing I do…
I grab a cup of coffee. I’ve accepted that mornings aren’t really a time for me to be productive, so I just leave myself time to wake up. Normally I put on a video from whatever youtube rabbit hole I’ve managed to get myself into. Yesterday I ended up learning about water drainage systems and flood control structures, despite never having offered them a thought in my life.
My typical day involves…
Since the pandemic hit I’ve actually spent most of my time drawing and painting. I really love making these short hand-drawn frame by frame animations. You have to make twelve separate drawings to get one second of video, so if I start on an animation it can end up taking the whole day. In periods I spend most of my time writing and recording music, usually sitting alone in my living room with a guitar and a microphone. In the evenings me and my girlfriend watch some TV or a movie. I try to force myself to bed by 2 am, but never seem to manage that. There are just too many things I’d like to do.
The best part of my day…
Is the night. There’s something about the peacefulness of knowing that most people are asleep. No messages that need answering, no social media updates that need posting, no dinner that has to be made, just me and whatever I’d like to get done. It’s just a fantastic feeling to me.
The worst pay of my day is when…
The alarm clock rings. That morning routine is just painful.
At the end of my day I will…
Sometimes I’ll watch a movie or play some video games. Whenever I’m not too tired and have nothing going on the next day, I’ll make a big mug of coffee at what should have been the end of my day. It’s a guilty pleasure, but whenever I do that I always seem to get a lot of work done throughout the night.
If I wasn’t a musician I’d be….
A graphic designer. I work a little bit with graphic design on the side, and I’m really loving it. Really I think I’d be happy as long as I could work with something creative.
