Inspired #240 - Zoe Konez
London based artist Zoe Zonez has just released her stunning indie-folk track ‘Just So You Know’ - seeping sounds similar to Novo Amor and Lucy Rose. She took a moment to talk us about the inspirations behind her music.
Who are your top three musical inspirations?
I particularly love the rawness in production of Novo Amour at the moment.
I love artists who create their own sound world - Imogen Heap is a real inspiration.
I love seeing people who I’ve played with do well and get recognised - Jessie Reid is a great musician.
Is there a certain film that inspires you?
I’m not a big film watcher but I watched Soul recently and that was pretty awesome. If you’re reading this and you
What city do you find the most inspiring?
Great question - I haven’t travelled in a while, but visiting any new city is such a source of inspiration. But I do feel like London is exciting and inspiring despite it being my home. I love the different areas, mix of people, the river, the pockets of nature, the random experiences that come from living in a city all feed into thoughts and songs.
Who is the most inspiring person to you?
My neighbour has five children in an overcrowded house, works at Tesco in the day and drives a taxi at night. That’s someone I am in awe of. The people keeping the world turning around us.
What were your inspirations when writing your new track?
Life at home in a quieter-than-usual city - exploring the sounds and sights around me in more detail.
Also the positive aspects of the dark times we’ve lived through - finding a hope and belief that things will be ok, trying to express that to others in my own way.
How would you like to inspire people?
I hope my songs connect and give people a comfort, hope, whatever they need at the time. If people feel something through listening to my music, then I’m happy.
