Introducing #134 - Ormiston

ORMISTON by Stacy Lee_4.jpg

Let us introduce you to Montreal based artist Ormiston - who has been teasing us with his disco rhythms and catchy indie-pop melodies over the past few releases. He took a moment to talk to us about his music, along with his latest single ‘Step From The Limelight’.

Hey there Ormiston, how are you? How are you keeping busy?
I’m great ! Me and some awesome musicians are putting a special live show together for the album launch, its been keeping me pretty busy !

Your track ‘Step From The Limelight’ is out now - can you tell us a bit more about it?
Its the 2nd track to be released from this new project. It was one of the 1st songs that came about on the record, it certainly help solidify the ground work in therms of sound for this record. The song is somewhat a critic of social media, where a lot of people feel this need to be in this “limelight”, a fear of being left out when not participating.

It has a big ‘90s-Art-Attack’ style video - how did that come about?
For the “Rebel” video I had the chance to work with the Ariel Poupart. We had this idea of creating a “Top Of The Pops” style performance.

Where are you from? Where do you go for adventures?
I’m from Montreal Canada ! Just before Covid hit I had the chance to go to central Italy for a few weeks, Had to much and pizza, it was absolutely fantastic.

You grew up surrounded by musicians - what are your earliest memories?
I was fairly young at the time, maybe 2-3 years old. So I remember hearing and seeing my mom arrive for sound check, interact with musicians and play tunes.
But I was dead asleep when the shows started haha !

What are your key influences when it comes to your music?
On this record I just wanted to feel alive and up beat. I’ve been listening
to a lot of newer french disco like Myd, Lewis Of Man, Jean Tonique.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never listened to it before?
What next for you?
Upbeat yet sensible electro pop. I’m gonna keep working on this live show, you should be able to see it online sometime this summer :) !!
