It’s our pleasure to introduce you to Manchester’s Hayes & Y, a band who combine contemporary pop with a sense of effortless ‘80s chic, and have just released their new single ‘Empty Orchestra’.

Hey guys, thanks for taking the time to answer our questions. How would you describe your sound to someone who has never listened to you before?

Thank you, the pleasure is all ours! We tend to say that our music falls into the “indie pop-rock” territory, but at the same time don’t like to put boundaries around it and constantly try to evolve our sound signature.

You’ve just released your recent single Empty Orchestra. Can you tell us a bit about it?

Yes, this is our most recent single, it’s a very melodic tune that builds and changes quite a lot.

It’s the second of a trilogy of track’s you’re planning to release. Can you elaborate more on this? Any thematic links between the three?

Well, the pandemic and our experience with making the songs during these times certainly tied them for us. We tried to involve that in the lyrics as best as we could.

Where are you from? Where do you like to go for adventures?

Three of us are from Bulgaria and the fourth one is from Finland. Quite the combination! We love to travel together and hope we get to do it more and more in the future. A place that comes to mind is Madrid - really enjoyed exploring the city when we played there.

What are your key musical influences?

They definitely change a lot with time. Right now - Talking Heads, Disco music, Late 70s.

After the final track’s released, what can we expect from Hayes & Y as the year progresses?

We are already working on new music and later on throughout the year will release at least 2 new songs. We also hope that we’ll have the chance to finally play live during the summer time, so that’s something to look forward to!
