Let us introduce you to emerging artist Tom King, who has just released his new soul inspired track ‘Honest’. He took a moment to talk to us about his new single and his plans for the future.

Hey Tom, how are you? So your track ‘Honest’ is out now - can you tell us what it is about?
I am bloody brilliant, thank you for asking. Yes! Honest is out now, finally! Basically, back in 2019 I fell in love with a boy, we were at school together. We were never in a relationship, so it was already kind of a disaster from the get-go. I found out he was having a secret relationship with one of my best mates, at the time, and I was pretty upset when I found out. That's basically where the song came from.

Where are you based? What are your favorite things to do there?
I’m actually from Guildford which is a little town in Surrey. It's all countryside here so lots of trees, lots of greens. I spend a lot of time with friends, going on walks or spending time with my family. I still live with my mum and dad, and I've got an older brother of two years. Him and his girlfriend are living at home at the moment which is nice because I get to annoy both of them.

When you were young, you used to perform shows to your family - what songs or music did these shows include?
Oh my goodness, I did indeed. I was kind of a little drag queen. I used to get my mum to buy me princess dresses from LEGOLAND and I put on shows for my whole family dancing around the living room. My favourite song to perform was Katy Perry ‘Hot N Cold’! I used to know every single lyric.

What are your key influences when it comes to your music?
At the moment I've been really inspired by some newer artists like Holly Humberstone, Lola Young, Olivia Dean, Winnie Raeder to name a few. But my old influences have to be people like Adele, Sam Smith, and Amy Winehouse. I’m obsessed with really soulful voices. I also take massive inspiration from the voices of people like Stevie Wonder and Luther Vandross, I aspire to be able to sing like them one day.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never listened to your music before?
I guess I’d say, Live based, soulful, big belters. Basically, if you’re into classic songs filled with emotion and heartbreak then I think you’ll like these new tracks.

What next for you?
Well, funny you say that. Honest is actually the first track on my debut EP. I’ve got five brand new songs all coming out this year. The whole process has been so exciting, and I can't wait for people to listen to it.
