Inspired #282 - Isabella Rosetta
San Francisco artist Isabella Rosetta has just released her silky new single ‘Stnad Clear’ - she took a moment to talk to us about the inspirations behind her music.
Who are your top three musical inspirations and why?
I would have to say that Lana Del Rey, No Doubt and Amy Winehouse have to be my top three musical inspirations. I grew up listening to No Doubt on countless road trips and never really appreciated the music and lyrics until later in life. The same sort of happened with Amy Winehouse... I always loved her lower register and the way she used lyrics to show exactly how she was feeling. Always inspired by Amy. With Lana Del Rey, I've always loved the storytelling and the ambience of her songs. She also helped me realize that delicate vocals can be powerful.
Is there a certain film that inspires you and why?
Nothing really comes to mind! Maybe I just haven't watched the right film yet.
What city do you find the most inspiring and why?
San Francisco! This city is my biggest inspiration because there's so much to it. Postcards and tourist locations are so surface level. Living here has given me so much opportunity to explore and learn- whether that be through classic food places in the city or the quintessential architecture. I also think the people are also what make the city the city.
Who is the most inspiring person to you and why?
My dad. He has always encouraged me to explore new artists and new music. He's been a drummer his whole life and wanted me and my brother to have an outlet for artistic expression. I'm a 5th generation musician and I have my dad to thank for always putting me in music lessons and performances. He's a driven person in everything he does and I'd like to think that I got that from him.
What were your inspirations when writing your new track?
I had a dream that I was at a chateau in the south of France and I had apparently invited everyone I'd ever met without planning anything. I opened my fridge and I only had two beers. That was basically the extent of the dream, but I was inspired by the scenery. I wrote this during the pandemic so I guess I only really had my dreams to go places.
How would you like to inspire people?
I hope that my music helps take people places, whether that be figurative or literal. When recording Stand Clear I wanted to make sure that the production oozed pacific highway vibes. I spent the majority of the pandemic in my hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and I felt so ridiculously landlocked that I knew I had to paint the picture of driving down the pacific highway with friends. I just want to inspire people to explore and have a good time with great people. That's all I want.
