Inspired #285 - The Avenues
Hull indie-rockers The Avenues recently released their single ‘Part of the Problem’. They took a minute to tell us what inspires both them, and the track.
Who are your top three musical inspirations?
We all come from pretty different musical backgrounds, but we all tend to agree on The Clash, Kings of Leon and Arctic Monkeys.
What city do you find the most inspiring?
Our hometown of Hull! We’re pretty out of the way and small in comparison to other cities, but we’ve still got plenty going on with a thriving music scene.
Who is the most inspiring person to you?
The guys from IDLES because they were working at it for so long before making it big and they never gave up.
What were your inspirations when writing your new single, ‘Part of the Problem’?
It was written pre-lockdown during the time when the amazon rainforest was on fire and it was all over everyone’s newsfeed, and we’d just had such a build up of bad things happening around the world at that time I just thought “God, it’s never ending”, and I realised I was starting to become numb to it all because the bad news was so frequent.
You’ve got an EP in the Pipeline too, what inspired that?
It’s 6 tracks that look into a few topics of problems in the modern world but still very much from the perspective of a young person, so the inspiration was everything that was happening around us at that time.
How would you like to inspire people?
Our singer really writes the songs as a way of getting whatever he’s feeling out of his own head, so hopefully people can just relate to it and know that other people feel the same way.
