Inspired #291 - LIMEY
Manchester-based solo artist LIMEY dropped his debut single ‘Poems & Riddles’. He talked us through his inspirations.
Who are your top three musical inspirations?
Tricky, it basically changes every month… Right now I’d say Pixies, The National and any music from The Leftovers (a really cool and depressing TV programme).
What city do you find the most inspiring?
I love Manchester, for obvious ‘I live here and it’s awesome’ reasons. But somewhere a bit different would be Chicago, there’s always something interesting to see.
Who is the most inspiring person to you?
After that past few weeks it’s gotta be Bukayo Saka, really proved a point at such a young age and just blew the country away at the euros.
What were the inspirations for your recent single ‘Poems and Riddles’?
Feeling like life is slowly passing you by, a bit like having a nostalgic memory with rose tinted glasses on, but then you realise your living through it and wasting the present.
You’re releasing more tracks in the not-too-distant future, what’s inspired them?
Self-deprecation mainly. Not throwing myself a pity party but I think the past year gave a lot of people a chance to look in the mirror (there was sod else to do right)? I left my flat with some tunes that were pretty introspective.
Finally, how do you hope to inspire people?
If someone listens to my music and says to themselves “that sounds cool, I want to give it a go” then great. I’d love that, but the main thing for me is I want people to feel like a song relates to them, that they can stick it on their iPhone 18 (whatever number we’re on now) and have an emotional response whether they hate it or love it. That’s more than enough for me.
