Let's Eat Grandma - 'Hall of Mirrors'

Returning with the first glimpse of new material since their critically acclaimed 2018 LP ‘I’m All Ears,’ Let’s Eat Grandma are back and armed with a confetti cannon filled to the brim with brightly coloured pop on comeback single ‘Hall of Mirrors.’

The transformation of the Norwich-duo in the five years since their debut album ‘I, Gemini’ feels quite drastic and they’re a long way from the mysterious teenagers that appeared on Jools Holland early on in their story. That said, the change feels like an organic one. While their sound has become brighter and more accessible, the deep-rooted foundations of their music don’t appear to have shifted too much. It’s more the case that they’ve added more storeys.

Being gifted multi-instrumentalists, Rosa Walton and Jenny Hollingworth never shy away from experimenting with an array of sounds in their music and ‘Hall of Mirrors’ is no exception. Its layered synths collide with an unexpected but welcome return of the saxophone which was the jewel of the Nile on their debut.

Like many complex multi-layered synth tracks, there’s a lot to zone in on which gives the song a huge amount of replay value as depending on which path you choose you could end up with a completely different listening experience from one time to the next.

It’s an assured reconvene from Let’s Eat Grandma and hopefully it’s not too long before their third album surfaces.
