Let us introduce you to Australian duo Good Morning, who have just announced their new album ‘Barnyard’ which will be released by their new label home Polyvinyl Record Co. They took a moment to talk to us about their music and what to expect from the new album.

Hey there Good Morning - your new track ‘Country’ is out now, can you tell us what it is about?
Hi The song is about how nostalgia and regret are the same thing really, and how it’s hard to look back at your life with any one lens. There will always be things you wish you’d done better and things you can’t change and things that you’re proud of. The lines around all of those can get a little blurry. The song is trying to kind of reckon with and accept the past and move on.

It is part of your new album - ‘Barnyard’, which is being released via Polyvinyl. How does it feel to be part of their family? And what can we expect from the album?
It’s nice! The crew from there all seem lovely and it’ll be nice to meet them in real life one day and not over zoom.
The album is our first one made in a legit studio and not at home or just by ourselves. There’s lots of fun instruments on there; marimbas and typewriters and swarmotrons and all kinds of weird pedals and keyboards and percussion. Ultimately the album is a five day burst of creativity and kinda sounds like us frantically running around trying to capture ideas.

Where are you from and what are your favorite things to do there?
We’re from Melbourne, Australia. Honestly it’s been a pretty tough time here during the pandemic. We have one of the strictest lockdowns in the world, with curfews and restrictions and all the fun stuff. Our favourite things to do here at the moment is really the only thing we can do ; work on music and go for a walk.

What are your key influences when it comes to your music?
I struggle with listing influences to be honest. I think most musicians kind of listen to anything and everything and let it inform them in different ways. We listen to lots of jazz and hip hop and electronic music and anything really. It all comes out the other end sounding like us so I don’t know. The things I’m really truly ‘influenced’ by don’t seem to show up all that much at the moment.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never listened to your music before?
This sounds shady but I’d probably just tell them to listen for themselves and make up their own mind! And if they don’t like it then that’s fine cause there’s plenty of other good music out there.
