Introducing #224 - Connor Adams

Let us introduce you to award winning artist, Connor Adams recently released his new single ‘Calm in the Madness’. We asked him a few questions to find out a bit more about him.

The lifting of lockdown restrictions and the return of live music has been a whirlwind for Adams having already notched up BBC Track of the Week, NMG’s Pop Artist of the Year, the October Grapevine Cover and having the honour of being inducted into the Cambridge 105’s Hall of Fame.

Hey Connor - how are you? So you've just released your new single - how does it feel to have it out there in the world?

It doesn’t quite feel real yet that Calm in the Madness is out to the world. I often think of new songs as secrets, ones that I keep super close to my chest. I’d often play the single on car journeys, sneakily slipping the track into a playlist to see if anybody would notice. I gave the track one last listen in my headphones on Thursday night in my garden, before it was released on Friday. That felt like a special moment.

It is called ‘Calm in the Madness’. Can you tell us what it's about?

Calm in the Madness reflects on the battles you face whilst dealing with anxiety. The pandemic uncovered things that I'd never recognised in me before, anxiety being one of them. Writing Calm in the Madness was my way of opening up to friends and family about the struggle.

You're from Ipswich what are your favourite things to do there? Where do you go for adventures?

I’ve grown to really love and appreciate going for walks. Suffolk has some beautiful countryside that I like to explore as much as I can. It helps me clear my mind - I often end up coming up with vocal melodies whilst walking, so I record them into my phone so I don’t forget. Listening back, some of them are hilarious!

You're currently about to head out on tour, what can fans expect from that?

Over the last couple of weeks my live band and I have been crunching down the songs, finalising the setlist. I’ve been performing for around 9 years now and I've never experienced energy and emotion like this from a set. Calm in the Madness is so much fun to play, it just works so well in the set. We’re ready to rumble!

What are the key influences in your music?

What I always search for is realness. In many different aspects, but particularly in the songwriting itself. For me the sounds may change in my songwriting here and there, but the core of the song will always be true to me.

In terms of genres I was brought up listening to Rock bands like The Darkness, Fleetwood Mac, Foo Fighters to name a few. So the love for Rock has always been there, installed from a young age. It feels amazing to be able to put a band around me now and start releasing these big Indie Rock sounding tracks.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never listened to your music before?

A Singer Songwriter that’s wrapped in Indie Rock, fueled by emotive songwriting.
