The Band Explains: The Gorgeous Chans - 'By The Highway' (Official Lyric Video).
Who: Young Nottingham-based 6-piece The Gorgeous Chans (Brandon Hill - (Guitar/Lead Vocs), Ephraim Stanton - (Guitar) , Daniel Potts - Bass/Backing( Vocs), Tom Girling -( Drums/Backing Vocs), Liam Webber - (Alto Sax) and Elliot Labbate - (Tenor Sax/Backing Vocs)) started life in 2012 riffing on Paul Simon’s 'Graceland' album. With this as a starting point, The Gorgeous Chans began making superb indie music with a tropical twist. Incorporating a horn section into an indie staple of guitars, bass, and drums, the band have organically built a loyal following for their summery danceable guitar-pop.
About The Track: 'By The Highway' is the harmony driven B-side to the band's debut single 'Marina & I' due for release on June 29th. The track has already received airplay from BBC 6 Music and sparked interest from several major labels. Both tracks were recorded by the band between free studio time at a local college and a ramshackle studio set up put together in Elliot’s back room, who is one of the two saxophone players in the group.
The Band Explains: "'By the Highway' started out as our attempt at a lullaby and was originally written on just a travel guitar in the south of France. The song mirrors the process that made it, as we added more instruments the song built in energy to the peak at the guitar solo at the end of the song, before falling back down to where it started.
The lyric video is shot in our home town, Nottingham and rather than a story line to follow or sticking literally to the lyrics, we worked with the director and actress to capture the feeling of the song."
