Single Review: Late Cambrian -' Yearbook Photo'

Instantly capturing your attention with squeaky synth sounds that wouldn’t be out of place in a side-scrolling space shoot ‘em up from the early 90s, Late Cambrian’s single ‘Yearbook Photo’ is exactly the sort of Electro Pop that will draw you in from your typical musical penchant. Quirky without being too challenging of the genres it straddles, John and O have built layers of samples and instrumentation for their unobtrusive vocal lines to swim amongst. There is excitement in the music that is not at odds with the mid-tempo groove laid down by the bass and drums.

Late Cambrian is clearly a wealth of talented song writing. Following on from their well-received single, ‘Dark Heart (Where Can We Go Now?)’, Late Cambrian’s forthcoming EP is shaping up to be something quite special. These two insights into Late Cambrian’s future show far more experimentation with the electronic elements of their sound. The indie is still lurking in there, along with the quality of the lyricism laid out in their 2015 LP ‘Golden Time’. Looking forward or backwards at the band’s work, there’s a lot to be excited about.
