Band To Check Out: Bad Ideas - 'Give Up' (Single) & Tour Dates
As vocalist Sam Cook opens the song with the wallowing, forlorn lyrics,"I have spent the first few days of this year, calling everyone I know, I am hopeless, I am hopeless - give me hope" it's clear to see this is a whole new playing field for Bad Ideas. The guitar riffs are gargantuan, the drums are angry and the vocals are flawed, shakey, resentful, self deprecating.
'Give Up' comes from the heart. It's turbo charged, angsty indie punk and is woefully cathartic, at least for Sam Cook who explains:
"I started last year in pretty bad shape and was living between friends houses as I moved back from Leeds to our home town of Lincoln.
After New Year's celebrations had petered out, I was sat in our bassist's lounge feeling rough in many ways, and wrote what became 'Give Up'. It helped me to draw a kind of mental line under things."
'Give Up' is the band's first new single since their 2014 EP 'The Better Parts of You' released via Uncle M and Paper + Plastick records and is available now via Bad Idea's bandcamp page.
