The Band Explains: MassMatiks - 'Gunning For You' (Video)

Who: South East London-based  MassMatiks are George Peploe (vocals),  Joe Turner (guitar), Martin Linch (bass) and Josh Stagg (drums).

About The Track: 'Gunning For You' is the band's debut single. Featuring a diatribe of spoken word and hooky vocal melodies, 'Gunning For You' is a provocative track fuelled by funk-infused, frenetic, intimidating riffs and dynamic drum patterns.

MassMatiks Explains:

1.Who produced the video? Where was it filmed?
Our good friend Alex Rawson from North Shore Films produced the video. We have done a few shoots with him and he has grown with us from the early days. We filmed the performance parts in his studio in Northampton, and the walking shots around Shoreditch in London.

2. How does the video compliment the song (if at all)?

We wanted to show our energy from our live performance and use the 'in your face' attitude of the band. We made sure, in the performance shots, we were tight together to keep the energy high. It was massively important to us that people understood that we are the kind of band that will be giving 100% at every show. It was also important to get the lyrics across so the walking shots helped tell the story, and gave me an opportunity to deliver them to the audience.

3. Any behind the scenes stories?
To be honest there wasn't many troubles or big stories filming just five mates hanging out having fun with a camera, thinking of shots and getting creative. We shot the video in two days and then came up to Northampton, had some beers and edited it together.

4. Tell us about the ideas/ themes/ imagery used?
We spent a long time thinking about how we would like to present ourselves right from the off. We like a lot of these grime videos, from artists like Lady Leshurr and Stormzy, and we took influence from their videos: such as looking directly at the camera and telling it how it is. Also, having those shots in the backstreets of London show people who we are and where the types of environments we've surrounded ourselves in.

5. What is the message the video is trying to convey?
The video is trying to get the story of the lyrics across and is a great introduction to what our band is about. This song in particular is about a guy I  (George) knew who is all bark and no bite. He thinks he’s a hard gangster, telling everyone he wants to beat me up, but when he saw me in person he couldn’t even look me in the eye. The video's letting the audience know we give a massively energetic show and are  not afraid to tell it how it is
