Essex / Bristol eccentric psyche merchants Big Top Heartbreakunveiled their new music video for ‘Champions Of The World’ and lead man Scott Lavene talks us through its conception.

Where was 'Champions Of The World' filmed?
It was filmed mainly at the Dorset Steam Fair but also at at Bingo hall near my flat and in the sea in Dorset.

How does the video compliment the song?
I think the song has a retro quality to it and I wanted a video that had the same kind of vibe.

Any behind the scenes stories?
Well we kept getting accosted by these traveller kids that were wondering what we were up to and wanted to be in every shot. I also got to get into the middle of the ring of the wall of death which was incredible. It was a family of people, Ken Fox and his wall of death crew. Heroic people and really old school. Amazing.

Tell us about the ideas/ themes/ imagery used?
The song is about bad behaviour, young love and escaping so what better than a funfair to evoke that. The scenes in the ocean were important for me as well as, to me, the sea is incredibly romantic.

What is the message the video is trying to convey?
That steam fairs are amazing! What I wanted was a video to match the song in its tale of excitement. It says run away, it may last forever, it may not. But do it anyway. Hearts are going to get broken, tears will run down our faces but there will always be some comfort round the next corner.
