Live Review - Vant & Black Foxxes - Electric Ballroom London, 09/03/2017
The Electric Ballroom has a huge amount of history about it. Over the years it has played host to top musical talent such as The Vaccines, Ocean Color Scene, Cage the Elephant, Foals, The Killers, Stereophonics, Sir Paul McCartney, Alt-J, Megadeth, Kaiser Chiefs, Nero, Richard Ashcroft, Miles Cane, U2, Prince, The Clash, Joy Division, The Smiths, Madness, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and many more.
So for a band like Vant, who one year ago headlined the Lexington, which is a fraction of the size of this room we are in tonight, and to go and sell it out can only be simply described as a landmark! A fixed point in time that cannot be altered or changed. A moment people will talk about for years to come.
However, before we get into that, we spend a bit of time with Black Foxxes, a band despite playing to a crowd that are mostly here for Vant, manage to get a few people singing their songs back to them. I've got a huge amount of love for this band already, so to see that happen you can't help but feel something special. The thing I love about them the most is their unique madness when it comes to their sound. One second it's soulful, then it's pure post hardcore grit.
All while that was happening the room was filling up nicely, because well...
It's sold out.
You look around tonight and the faces are very young which is refreshing. For a band to be supported by such a youthful crowd at this stage in their career is amazing.
Vant crash into their set with the room breaking into complete madness, at one point the security struggle to hold the barrier, due to the sheer force of it all. Their music reminds me of the early excitement Kasabian has, the laddish attitude with a splash of vintage thrown in. Wearing leather jackets while drinking a can of fosters.
They say that history repeats itself, and this was one of those moments, One of those evenings where it went off and a fixed point in the time line of live music was made!
