Majik - 'Paralysed (Skeleton)' (Single)
Last month, Majik self-released their double A side single, the brooding downtempo, 'Paralysed' and the dark and delicate, 'Friends (under the influence)' - each track making used of Majiks atmospheric textures, simmering vocals and subtle synth in their own respective right.
If you check out the band's soundcloud page, they have a knack for doing one of my most favourite things in music - stripping back their songs to their rawest, barest bones and that's exactly what they've done with 'Paralysed'. 'Paralysed' in its skeletal form gives a really lovely platform for Jamie's evocative guitar work to ooze emotion as Marcus' soothing, sultry vocal becomes 100 times more potent, amping up the intensity of the heart-felt and relatable angst found within the lyrics.
To date, Majik have taken a pretty DIY approach to things, crafting high-quality, intricate tracks via bedroom recording and makeshift studios - an approach that is very much working in their favour, seeing them pull in thousands of fans and garner support from the likes of BBC Introducing and Radio X. I really like what these guys are doing, they're a no-frills electronic duo making beautiful music, who take the universal shadows on our hearts and encourages them to find a way to dance, in spite of the darkness.
