The Artist Explains: Seth Glier - 'Sunshine'

Seth Glier talks us through the ideas behind his aesthetically pleasing visuals for, 'Sunshine'.
Despite the warmth its name brings and the rhythmic buoyancy to the soundscape, 'Sunshine' carries a chill in its minimalist glacial production, as Seth Glier longs to feel the heat of a former happiness lost to him.

Seth Glier Explains:
Where was the video for 'Sunshine' filmed?
It was filmed at the golden nozzle car wash down the street from my home in western Massachusetts. They were running a special on unlimited car washes for only $19.99 a month. We went through the car wash 35 times that afternoon. Not bad for a music video budget.

How does the video/ footage compliment the song?
Well I've always felt that this song is less about sunshine and more about the absence of it. As a kid I always loved going through the car wash because it seemed like this magically dark mysterious world for a minute and a half. The sunshine always seems too bright at the end of a car wash.

Any behind the scenes stories?
I think by our 5th time through the folks who owned the car wash became suspicious of our activity. One guy asked me if I was on drugs so we finally confessed that we were shooting a music video and they were very excited about it.

Tell us about the ideas/ themes/ imagery used?
I really wanted it to feel playful and dark at the same time. There is this wonderful dance of soap suds and rinse machines. The wet mops always reminds me of tentacles. It's a bit Willy wonka.

What is the message you hope people take from watching the video?
Ultimately that there is magic to be seen in all states. In the bright fun times when everything is good and certain and also in the times of loss and fragility.
