The Duo Explains: Wy - 'You + I' (Video)

Swedish duo Wy  speaks to us about the self-produced visuals for dreamy new single 'You + I'.
'You + I' features punchy percussive beats, mellow, atmospheric guitar melodies and an evocative vocal that sees the track take flight with an airy melancholy. ' You + I'  is a thought provoking song which finds a way to stick to its listener, like welcoming the arrival of a shadow; just as the sun starts to penetrate through a cloudy sky.

Wy Explains:
Where was the video for 'You + I' filmed?
It was filmed in both Malmö where we live and near Ebba's childhood home. The part with the car is filmed in the outskirts of Helsingborg.

How does the video/ footage compliment the song?
We wanted an oppenness and relaxed feeling in this one since it's about comfort, and that's when we came up with the idea of the meadow. The car is just something we always wanted to do in a video, even if it's been done many times. I (Ebba) also wanted Michel to film the whole thing. Both to make it feel intimate and because that's the way we both prefer it. We like being just the two of us. In the end this is a song about social anxiety, and how we help each other through it.

Any behind the scenes stories?
The part with the bicycle is very DIY, haha. Like everything else. But for that scene we taped the camera tripod to our friend Jonathan's bike, together with a bright red light, and then he biked in front of Ebba. It seems like something that wouldn't work at all but it did. It was hell to remove all the tape though, haha.

Tell us about the ideas/ themes/ imagery used?
Besides the scenes from the meadow and the car there is a lot of personal footage that we've filmed last year. There's a few clips from when we went to Tokyo, and some from when we lived in Stockholm. We wanted to include a more intimate touch since it's a song about us.

What is the message you hope people take from watching the video?
That being an introvert doesn't have to be a bad thing. And that you can always find ways to express yourself without feeling uncomfortable.
