Listen: Wallace - 'Black Lake' (Single)

New Zealand born, Sydney based Neo-soul artist Wallace streams thrilling new single, 'Black Lake'.

Wallace is a singer songwriter who is unafraid to experiment and is best known for her upbeat, forward thinking sound that playfully infuses elements of hip hop, soul and blues. Each track that she touches takes her listener on an imaginative journey of exotic, feel good sounds. Up until now that is.

'Black Lake' reveals a darkness and intensity to Wallace's sound that goes beyond anything we have heard from her before, attempting "to capture the thoughts of someone who is in love and ready to commit to a person who isn't".

Based around a hypnotic marimba-led melodic riff,  'Black Lake' is a transfixing song that builds in dangerous yet exquisite cinematic layers with the introduction of live drums and soaring string sections. Wallace's breathtaking vocal oozes seduction and (at times touching upon borderline deranged), wickedly beautiful, desperately luring, a siren call hard to say no to.

But in true Wallace fashion, there's a lightness behind the track's title as she explains; "After finishing the tune, I was re-watching one of my favourite comedies, The Mighty Boosh, and realised with all the water imagery we'd weaved into our story, we'd accidentally written the song from the point of view of Old Gregg. We hadn't landed on a title at this point so I suggested Black Lake, the home of the Baileys drinking, watercolour painting man himself."

'Black Lake' is from Wallace's debut EP 'Pole To Pole', out October 13th and co-written with Joel Quartermain (Eskimo Joe).
