Single Review: 9 Theory - Island Song (feat. Julian Temple)

LA -based artist 9 Theory teams up with New Zealand's Julian Temple on beautiful  new single. 'Island Song'.
'Island Song' sees 9 Theory step away from the intensity of the melodic electronic music he is known for, embracing an organic and downtempo, indie singer-songwriter soundscape, that has really gotten under my skin. There's a clean, fresh and airy feel to the track that makes use of affecting melodies, offering a gentle backdrop for Julian Temple's gorgeous, soothing vocal to rise from.

Although setting a relaxing atmosphere, the emotion in the song is tangible as a contemplative breeze of sadness and loneliness rushes through the profound lyrics, "Does the sun shine bright when, you're the only one left on an island? Do birds still fly when, truth is looking for you but you're hiding?" indicating a profound attempt at reaching out for connectivity whether with self, or someone else.

'Island Song' is the fourth release from 9 Theory's upcoming second album, 'Good Morning From A Nuclear Ghost', released on the new LA-based music label, Elite Frequency Group (EFG). This is the first time I've heard of either 9 Theory or Julian Temple, but 'Island Song' is by far my favourite collaboration of the year.
