Live Review: Wolf Alice, Superfood & Sunflower Bean - 02 Academy, Bristol 08/11/2017

Wolf Alice’s first time gracing the O2 Academy Bristol was a huge sold out show, where they brought American indie-pop trio Sunflower Bean and fellow Dirty Hit Records band, superfood out to support them for the show and tour.

The night kicked off with superfood and their bright-pop-infused melodies to get the crowd warmed up nicely, that is what they went and did with plenty of the crowd off their feet and bouncing around.

Next to take to the stage were Sunflower Bean, who hadn’t played Bristol since their exciting set on Thekla last September. With their latest single release of I Was a Fool, which gave the excitable crowd something new to sing back at them that wasn’t from their incredible debut album Human Ceremony.

With Sunflower Bean warming the crowd up perfectly it was time for headliners Wolf Alice to turn on the stage lights and get the disco ball spinning. Kicking off their set with lead track Heavenward off their new album Visions of a Life and then flowing straight into the second track off the album Yuk Foo, Wolf Alice started as they meant to go on, slaying every riff possible and getting the crowd moving.

Alternating tracks new and old Wolf Alice flew through their set which seemed to finish with Fluffy, but Wolf Alice pulled out the stops with an encore that had pure grit, kicking off with delicate track that is Blush, then finishing with the grand finale that was Giant Peach. Wolf Alice definitely started off their tour with a bang and I feel it will only get better each night.
