Single Review: Short Weekends – 'Green Summer'

Notts based quintet Short Weekends are making quite a statement on the local music scene, and are sure to pack a punch with their upcoming single, 'Green Summer'.

Instantly, we’re transported back to 2011, with a clear indie disco vibe. Influences from Two Door Cinema Club are apparent; however, this shouldn’t be mistaken for a lack of individuality.

'Green Summer' encapsulates all the indie goodness in three minutes, combining catchy riffs and a funky synth backline, which plays around with a psychedelic vibe. Vocally, frontman Cam'ron Murden offers a distinct and rough around the edge sound, which suggests a stray from the generic indie pathway. Lyrically, the single boasts a care-free attitude, discussing details of summer fun and teen dreams, which will certainly send beers flying once performed.

The mixture of smooth guitar lines and playful lyrics falls hand in hand with Murden’s rough vocal, creating a fresh sound in an overly saturated scene. Green Summer carries a swagger from which we will never tire. A super summery indie hit which will certainly turn heads upon its release.

'Green Summer' is released on the 17th November, Short Weekends are playing a launch for it Rough Trade in Nottingham on the same day to celebrate.
