On Tour With: Spanish Love Songs
Los Angeles' own Spanish Love Songs head out on tour next month in support of their new album 'Schmaltz' which is out on the 30th March on A-F Records.
We had a chat with them about baby wipes and general tour life -
Are you excited about the tour? What is the best bits you look forward to when hitting the road?
So excited that I've started neglecting all the other aspects of my life! Getting to play music for people every night is pretty rad, but really it's the food. Our touring bassist Clay and I do pretty heavy research into what we're going to eat in each city.
What the main tour essentials you pack and why?
I'm such a diva that I carry synthetic sports underwear just for performances. Baby wipes. An auxiliary cable that works. And lactaid for when I wanna get wild and eat some cheese. I'm bringing a Zelda game on this tour, and I think it'll become an essential very quickly.
What is your best tour experience?
Switzerland 2016. The day after the election. We played a packed out house show in this tiny town and the kids just went off. I think we all cried. They picked me up to crowd surf. And then we got drunk on a refrigerator full of beer.
What is your worst tour experience?
Switzerland 2016. Right before that super awesome show, I almost backed over Kyle with the van when he jumped behind it, and then we proceeded to publicly yell at each other for about 15 minutes. I looked like an asshole.
Who has the most disgusting habits on the tour bus? And what is it?
I think we're actually pretty clean as far as touring bands go. We might smell a little if we don't have a place to shower. The worst thing is when someone buys fresh fruit and then forgets about it for a day in the heat.
What can we expect from this tour? Is there anything new in the set list?
You can expect to see us in a lot of places we've never been. We're arguing over set lists now, but it will probably be a fairly even split of new songs and old songs, but we're open to suggestions. I've been going to the gym, so hopefully you'll see a slightly less-winded version of me.
If you could tour with anyone, who would it be and why?
I would love to tour with Against Me or the Hold Steady. They're two bands we owe a lot to stylistically, and it would just be an honor to play some rowdy shows with them every night.
