Single Review: Against the Current - '‘Strangers Again’ & ‘Almost Forgot'

Before they head off for a festival filled Summer, Against The Current have showered us with two new singles, which quench the thirst of any closet pop lovers.

This three-piece have had listeners engaged since they dropped their debut album ‘In Our Bones’, which racked up over 52 million streams. The pop trio are fun and full of life, with such engaging songs that flow into one another seamlessly. As soon as the rumor of a tour and new music emerged the excitement flew through my veins.

Strangers Again’ and ‘Almost Forgot’ stay true to that of Against The Currents roots, pushing new music out for the first time in over two years. These new singles are blissful and fresh, with that same hint of pop that we loved from the original record. The freshness of these singles shows that with time the band has worked on their sound even more to develop their tones and style. The second instalment of Against the Current should arrive in our earbuds by the end of the year, potentially hinting at one of the strongest years for music.

These two new singles have an electro-pop feel to them, with ‘Strangers Again’ telling the story of young love from the perspective of those coming out of a relationship. This particular song has a hugely upbeat and fun chorus, the type of song which has you dancing around your bedroom in pure delight. ‘Almost Forgot’ begins with guitar, which lends itself to a much more mellow tone from the off. However, as the song continues and more and more layers are added into the arrangement the upbeat feel of the track is really amplified. These songs are nostalgic of bands such as Paramore, but also due to the bad girl, female lead, the link to artists such as Avril Lavigne is apparent.

Comprising of band members Chrissy Costanza, Dan Gow and Will Ferri, it will be really exciting to see how this band evolves and grows over the next couple of years. Join the band on tour in September:
