Yak - 'White Male Carnivore'
Garage Punk rock trio Yak have released their first new single of 2018 with ‘White Male Carnivore’, a really intriguing new release which is their darkest and most deranged tune to date.
After their ferocious debut album ‘Alas Salvation’ was released in 2016 Yak having been gaining some great attention which included working with Kevin Parker from Tame Impala, countless tour dates across the country & also supporting The Last Shadow Puppets on their last tour. Yak have also announced a new record deal with Virgin EMI for their next album which will feature new release ‘White Male Carnivore’.
‘White Male Carnivore’ still has that punk rock attitude & chaotic production which is a part of the band's DNA but in their new release there is darker, crunchy guitar sounds on top of frontman’s Oli Burslem’s deranged vocals. Also, if it wasn’t even possible this song seems to be even more energetic then most songs from their debut album, ‘Alas Salvation’. When coming up with the title of the song Burslem noted down his three most uncomfortable words which were “white”, “male” and “carnivore”. The song does have an uncomfortable feeling about it reflecting the title ‘White Male Carnivore’ but it’s that uncomfortableness and overall insanity which makes it into such a great song.
Having loved Yak’s first album this new single gives a tantalising taste for the new album. It’s also so refreshing to see a band try something different from what’s currently being released. Make no mistake ‘White Male Carnivore’ stands out a mile but in such a cool way.
