The Artist Explains: Plested - 'Backup Plan'
Singer-songwriter Plested talks to us about his beautiful, Billy Elliot inspired visuals for heartfelt single, ‘Backup Plan’.
Plested Explains:
Where was the video for ‘Backup Plan’ filmed?
Backup Plan was filmed in West London. Around the Notting Hill, Ladbroke Grove area and inside the beautiful Sunbeam Studios! I had no idea the studio existed but it’s such an amazing space.
How does the video connect with the song?
’Backup Plan’ was written about the ‘all or nothing’, ‘make it or die trying’ nature of the music industry. The dancer’s story in the video is similar to my own, whilst chasing a dream. I dedicated everything to my craft, whilst squeezing in a catering job, to make some pocket money so I could survive.
Any behind the scenes stories?
The ballet coach in the video is an absolutely incredible choreographer day to day, I kind of wanted to be Billy Elliot for the day, she put us through our paces. Unfortunately I still can’t dance.
Could you tell us about the ideas/ themes/ imagery used?
My good friend and director Daniel Harris absolutely smasheddddd the imagery through the shoot. It was key that the video looked gritty, tiring and authentic to the struggle of reaching success!
What do you hope people take away from watching the video?
If people can watch the Backup Plan video and relate to how hard it balancing time between work, relationships and dream chasing, I’ll be super happy! It’s important everyone knows that whatever career/dream they’re trying to reach, we’re all struggling just as much as each other and we’ll all make it one day!!!!
