Eliza Shaddad - 'Just Goes To Show'

Ahead of the release of her debut album, Eliza Shaddad has released the final single, ‘Just Goes To Show’, which sees her role-reversing the topics already spoken about on previous tracks and putting herself in the shoes of the protagonist.

Speaking of the latest single, Eliza says; “Just Goes To Show is about that gross, desperate, world-ending feeling you get just as you’re being broken up with […] like many songs on the album it deals with themes of escape and regret, but in a rare case here, it’s from the perspective of the person being left behind.” Eliza Shaddad is a musician that has a wealth of experiences that have put her in the paths of many different genres and the singles that have been released from the upcoming album, allow us to hear a reimagining of all the sounds that have shaped her life.

Eliza Shaddad has perfected the knack of letting the lyrics do the talking in her songs – which doesn’t for one second mean that the instruments take the backseat – in fact it’s the opposite. The simplicity and familiarity in the tone of her 90’s sounding guitar is the perfect accompaniment to her soft vocals that swing between pained and comforting. At times, the chorus reminds me of a modernisation of ‘Pure Shores’ by All Saints, with the layering of the vocals, “I hear you saying that it’s time to go, but I am begging you to take it slow” that allow Shaddad to be in the category of catchy and memorable pop, all the while maintaining her credibility as a modern and versatile musician. When compared to songs like ‘White Lines’ and ‘My Body’, it is clear that ‘Just Goes To Show’ is another piece to the puzzle of unravelling the mystery, that is Eliza Shaddad.
