The Artist Explains: Josh Collins - 'Hold You Back'

London-based singer-songwriter Josh Collins talks to us about finding clarity in the Lake District during the filming of his stunning music video, ‘Hold You Back’
Taken from his debut EP, ‘Porky Pies’, ’Hold You Back’ pairs Josh Collins sincere, smooth vocal with mellow, atmospheric, acoustic-driven production as he earnestly reflects on a romance.

Josh Collins Explains:
Where was the video for 'Hold You Back' filmed?
'Hold You Back' was filmed in the Lake District, North West England.

How does the video connect with the song?
This song simply reflects a persons need for clarity. The song and video connect through the mood of the lyrical content alongside the Lake District’s beautiful remoteness.

Any behind the scenes stories?
We had the idea of swimming in Derwent Water before the tourists awoke. This meant getting up before sunrise to film the shots at Blue hour.

It’s May, its Northern England, its cold, its very..very cold!

I was in and out the water numerous times, I can tell you now I won’t be doing that again any time soon.

Could you tell us about the ideas/ themes/ imagery used?
We wanted to create an atmospheric visual that captivates the viewer from the first scene to the last. If I had to pick themes, it would loosely be about serenity. Someone taking themselves away from day to day life to reflect.

Is there a message the video is trying to convey?

I hope that the video depicts the importance of head space. Its very easy to get caught up in the same routine, so its good to break the cycle.

On top of this, I hope it inspires people to visit the Lake District - it is stunning!
