RUNAH - 'Ghosts'

RUNAH shares ‘Ghosts’, the stirring title track from her new art folk EP which comes with uninhabited, self-exploratory visuals and that familiar touch of RUNAH magic.

RUNAH’s music takes an introspective yet relatable look at the uncomfortable truths and flaws of the human condition, whilst finding solace in spirituality and intuition. RUNAH’s art explores the ideal that outwardly we exist as one small part of the universe. We carry our own pain as we try to find our own paths, but the universe is a nurturing force that also exists inside us and we can draw strength from that as we grow, both in physical age and mental maturity.

Inspired by mythology, psychology and poetry, RUNAH’s songs tap into natural sonic textures and visual imagery that evoke concrete emotion and remain grounded, whilst embracing elements of fantasy and subtle dramatics. The EP title track, ‘Ghosts’ is so well composed, it could actually exist without a music video, filling its listener’s mind with vivid imagery as water and its cleansing, free-flowing nature takes on a central theme.

There are ghosts that haunt the track, and RUNAH balances familiar sounds of the natural world with an eerie air of mystery and foreboding. Yet, overall, the tone of the track feels uplifting and moves with a fluidity, as RUNAH starts to untangle herself from the things that hold her back, “these ghosts creep underneath my skin but I refuse to go insane”, feeling lighter, encouraging, “float away with me, because I’m like a river”.

Filmed in Galway between three abandoned houses by Dublin based team Picture Mode Studios, the music video accompanying ‘Ghosts’ draws on RUNAH’s fascinating staple of using creative modern dance techniques and creating short visual stories with stunning folklore influences.

When looking at the ‘Ghost’ EP in its entirety, RUNAH has once again succeeded at pulling away the veil between fiction and reality to create an impressive record full of magic, intimacy, and thought-provoking storytelling.
