Sam Florian puts body confidence issues under the microscope on his gorgeous indie electronic single, ‘In My Body’ (feat. la Oberg) out now via Hybris and Kitsuné Maision.

I have a lot of time for artists who can take aspects of melancholia, yet still make their listener feel good. ‘In My Body’ is a fundamentally sad song, but Sam Florian and la Oberg’s brooding vocals are warm and endearing and when they come together on the vocal harmony it sounds like bliss. Florian has been cultivating a sound that blends bedroom pop with lo fi indie textures and arguably, In My Body’ could be his most polished and accomplished track to date.

Thematically, ‘In My Body’ focuses on body confidence issues as the duo poignantly lament, “In my body in my body, I don’t feel at home in here"… and I can’t go… and I can’t change” amidst a trickling soundscape of ambient textures and an upbeat groove that you can’t help but bop along to. As the track develops, Florian adds more hypnotic and trance-like textures to the production which cleverly contradicts the sadness in the lyrical theme, giving spacious when needed and containing subtle dramatics, making this a beautiful song to sad-sway to. Also allowing its listener a little escapism from the noise in their heads, ’In My Body’ is enjoyed best on repeat.
