ELVIN - 'Sweet Sensations'

Laura Elvin aka ELVIN has a distinct characteristic about her that makes her quite unforgettable. Alongside her songs having a timeless quality, it’s her powerfully haunting and piercing voice akin to Florence Welch, Paloma Faith and Kate Bush, that makes her stand out. ‘Sweet Sensations’ is a mystical performance that creates wonderful imagery like a mythical siren calling in the background of a twinkling night landscape. ELVIN’s vocals are the most prominent part of the song; a wholly simplistic make-up of drums rolling in and out, like the tide, with stripped back piano chords allowing the shiny synths to tinker away.

ELVIN is exploring the idea of female sexuality in ‘Sweet Sensations’ and appears to be directing the listener into finding the freedom to speak up for themselves, in order to unlock something within. There is a direct intensity in ‘Sweet Sensations’ which runs parallel to ELVIN’s other single, ‘Growing Fonder’. Whilst the latter is more of a complicated production musically, there seems to be a common thread between the topics of conversation where the song seems to be about personal growth and confidence that allows you to speak what is on your mind. As an artist who speaks openly about her love of poetry, you can see how this influences her sound and might allow her to be more personal with the stories she tells.

‘Sweet Sensations’ is a part of ELVIN’s upcoming concept EP ‘The Garden’ which is due to be released in 2019.
